It’s better to be poor and happy, the rich and unhappy.”

The Sources of Learned Limitations

There is a certain reason we have some of these beliefs, some of them were fed to us from our parents, some of the ones we have learned as we have experienced things, we have experienced loss or pain in some ways it’s kind of held us back.

[shareable cite=”Abe Stone”]Limiting beliefs may have been fed to us from our parents or we may have learned them through experiences. Are they true? [/shareable]

We have decided, “Well this is the way it is.” “I am not smart.” “I’m not smart enough to do this.” “I am not good at Math”; whatever the case is.

These things don’t have to be that way, those are just a story that you are telling yourself. Now I have posted some other posts on this before, please go ahead and check them out, I will try to put the list down below this post.

9 Things Not to Say To Your Child or Yourself

Overcome Obstacles Using Positive Reframing Practically

Align these 3 Things and Succeed Faster

15 Things Not to Believe and 15 You’ll Want To

How to Start Living Your New Story Today

HaBits – Beliefs -Eagles

Byron Katie’s Formula Passed Down to Me

But today, I want to give you a very simple five step process that you can use. It’s actually four clear questions and then an action step for you to take. Okay, this is not from me, this is something that I have been learning about recently, it’s from Byron Katie and it’s something that my coach Janice Bastani did with me, an exercise that we did together and I would like to share it with you right now.

So here goes.

1. Identify It and Ask This Question

Take a pen and paper and write down that belief, whatever it is. Let’s say for example, you are working towards a holiday. “Oh, I can’t take a break.”

The first question in that case is: Is that true? You are going to be tempted to say yes, it’s impossible to think of it in any other way. Just answer the question, is that true? Yes or no.

2. The Challenge

Here is the next question: Can I absolutely know it’s true? And chances are, there are very few things in life that are that clearly determined and really impossible. Because that’s what a lot of limiting beliefs will do, they are keeping it within a realm of possibility in your mind, from your perspective.

[offer-box href=”http://sostartover.com” linktext=”Reminder: Have you checked out my book? I just released “So? Start Over!: Experience Clarity, Do What Matters, Live Your Dream” which includes worksheets, cheatsheets, and bonus material. Click here to check it out!” securecheckout=”true” footnote=”Get It on Amazon”]

3. Connecting to the Effect

Okay now I want to read this one because it’s a little bit of a longer question, but this is very important, pay attention to this. How do I react, what happens when I believe that thought? Write it down, be very specific about it.

4. A Peek at Possibility

And now here is the fourth question: Who would I be without this thought? That really changes things because you suddenly realize that it’s a thought and there is a possibility of a different thought.

[shareable cite=”Abe Stone”]When you realize that a limiting belief is just a thought, you suddenly realize there is a possibility of a different thought. [/shareable]

5. Ready to Believe, Your Choice

Okay now once you go through this exercise, you are in a new position, you are ready, your mind is opening up to another possibility. And what you need to do here is you need to take that belief, however you wrote it and just turn it around. Instead of “I can’t”, “I can”, “I am learning to do such and such, to handle things in a certain way, to have such and such.” And see your life change.

Okay, now I’m going to leave you with the quote for today:

[shareable cite=”Les Brown”]The only limits to the possibilities in your life tomorrow, are the buts you use today. #quote[/shareable]

Okay, now here’s your affirmation, be sure you put it somewhere by your bed or on the mirror in the kitchen, somewhere you are going to see it first thing in the morning when you wake up and before you go to bed at night, say it three times every time you see it and really internalize it and make it a part of your emotions and feeling;

[shareable cite=”Abe Stone”]”Every day I release past limiting beliefs and practice positive new ones.”
#affirmation[/shareable]

I hear you saying, “But I can’t have that (fill in the blank), because (fill in the excuse).” How about “I’m too _____ to ever be good at _____.” Some of these beliefs about yourself are a little less logical but just as limiting. “He never listens to me.” “She’s not will to do this or that […]

[34,46
81,93,68,56,8,110,49,247,64,25,67,42,140,48,26,14,47,55,50,15
