Some of my favorite bloggers post short, to the point, posts. What is it about those short concise posts that grabs us and keeps us going back for more? I think it comes down to time. Time is a finite commodity. When it’s gone there’s no refill.

The only time we can do anything about is now. Today, time was slipping away from me in frustration over some technical problems I was facing. A little later, when reading The Power of Now for the second time, this all changed. Here’s my take-away for you.

Narrow your attention down to the present moment without labeling… no judgment of the now… no resistance, no emotional negativity.

It is the quality of your consciousness at this moment that is the main determinant of what kind of future you will experience, so to surrender is the most important thing you you can do to bring about positive change.

Ask yourself, ‘Is there anything I can do to change the situation, improve it, or remover myself from it?’ If so, you take appropriate action. Focus not on the one hundred things that you will or may have to do at some future time but on the one thing you can do NOW.”

(Read The Power of Now)

When you hit snags or road blocks in work, relationships, health, money, goals or any of life’s pursuits, three basic options you have are…

  1. Surrender. Some things that happen may be out of our control. Don’t feed its negative energy by getting emotional or hot under the collar.
  2. Change. Once you accept the situation for what it is, without labels, take positive action to make a change.
  3. Resist. As we resist a situation it gains a stronger hold in our hearts, minds, and emotions, robbing us of any potential we may have had to take effective action.

Choosing to be present in this moment, NOW, frees us from remorse over the past or worry about the future, allowing us the clarity to take positive action even if only planning and setting our sights on the positive action we will take.

Be present, to take a step into a future that matters. [Tweet this!]
