“Come to the movies with us”, came the beckoning voice of friends. “Can you join a subcommittee to improve an event we’re hosting”, a text from work asked. What do these requests have in common?

These were two unrelated items that came on my radar as I sat trying to focus on completing this post for you. The mind battle I faced, as I subsequently turned each request down, was exhausting but I did. I kept my FOCUS on my priorities. You can learn to do this too.

Then just a couple of months ago a friend gave me a smartwatch with a buzz to my arm and I was able to see all my notifications even faster, with a flick of my wrist. This ended up driving me crazy and I discovered reason why.

Now one would think of eating their grandma, but I read that the kids said, “Let’s eat grandma!” Sounds terrible but if you add a comma it’s a different experience. “Let’s eat, grandma!”

That’s a critical writing mistake that completely changes the outcome of the conversation, but the subconscious mind has a challenge with the actual words we use as well. The self-talk words we use play a huge role in the way our days and lives turn out.

Sometimes family presents us with incredible joy and sometimes we just feel stuck and in pain. Do you have a marriage situation you just can’t get out of, or are you nursing a child through an illness you just can’t beat? No one enjoys feeling stuck in life.

I remember sharing a video about a woman who lost her legs to a sudden disease. Stories like that, where a person comes through and has an amazing life, in spite of circumstances can be inspiring, but what about our own situations? – Less extreme?
