I decided to try something new with this first video of the New Year and I moved out of the studio and into my office, this is where I work.

So you can see, here is my favorite mug that the kids sent me for Father’s Day and yeah, this is my setup, some of my favorite books, my post-its and reminders, my trusty computer.

The Problem with Focusing on a Goal

So I want to give you something special at the beginning of the year and it’s something that we all want more of and we all need more of in our lives, and that is happiness.

[shareable cite=”Abe Stone”]Practice happiness now. Goal focused people tend to defer happiness until the moment the goal is completed.[/shareable]

It really is one thing that makes life so much easier is when we’re happy, when we are going forward, reaching towards our goals, especially when we are very goal focused. Because when you are goal focused, you tend to defer happiness until the moment the goal is completed.

Well these are ways scientifically proven that you can be happy now. There are actually ten ways that are scientifically proven and I have an eleventh one that is my personal experience which I’d like to give you. And here they are, I have them on my share notes.

11 Ways to Be Happy Now (10 Proven by Science)

So the first one is,

  1. Take time to meditate. Meditation rewires your brain and connects you to that happiness.
  2. Practice smiling.
  3. We have another one and that is exercise. Exercise at least 7 minutes every day, something to get your heart pumping.
  4. This one’s a funny one, plan a trip but don’t take it. They say there’s so much joy in getting excited about preparing a trip. Sometimes the trip itself can be a little bit disappointing but that planning is awesome.
  5. All right now the next one is spend time with your family and friends.
  6. Move closer to work. Who knew? By this, you have less commute to get you down.
  7. Another one is go outside, especially when the temperature is around 13.9 °C. How about that?
  8. Of course we have sleep more.
  9. We have take time to help others, at least a couple hours a week.
  10. And last but not least on this list is gratitude.
  11. BONUS TIP: Now, the eleventh one which I would like to throw in there, which I have found has really changed things for me is learn to become present in the moment. Meditation is a real key way of doing that; sometimes just simple gratitude for the things that you are experiencing, for the breath that you have, for the food that you have eaten that day, just to be able to be alive. I did this the other day and a smile spread across my face, I just couldn’t help it. All right, that’s it for this short video.

And here’s your quote for today,

[shareable cite=”Omar Khayyam”]Be happy for this moment, this moment is your life.[/shareable]

Okay. And now here’s your affirmation for today, very important, make sure you write it down or write it on your window or on the mirror or somewhere in the bathroom in the kitchen, on the tiles and look at it at least twice a day and say it three times each time that you see it,

[shareable cite=”Abe Stone”]Being happy comes easy to me, happiness is my second nature. #affirmation[/shareable]
