Leaving your mind in a muddled state can be quite exhausting. Have you ever wondered what they mean by, “The mind is a excellent servant, but a terrible master”?
The mind is great at keeping you alive on autopilot, but that’s about it. You do need to get in the driver’s seat or else, it will run it’s own basic programing and you probably won’t like it.

Today’s video is all about journaling.
What Is Journaling?
It is kind of a funny word journaling, it sounds like a reporter or something like that. Simply, it is just about being able to sit down and write about your thoughts.
Write about things that you’re feeling and getting things out of just being in your mind and on to paper.
Navigating Muddled Thoughts
I was going through some affairs of the heart. I was feeling a little bit confused and I wasn’t sure I was doing the right thing in my communication with the other person.
I was just really muddled and I was starting to get cold feet. I was like, “I just don’t like where this is going.” I thought, “I haven’t journaled about this.”
So, I sat down and I just wrote my thoughts. My thoughts were kind of negative. They were going down, they were taking me down.
But that is how they were coming and by the time of the end of it, a thought came to my mind. I realized I’m not that bad at this. In fact, I can be here with this story.
By the end I had a simple statement that was empowering and it was taking me out of that debilitating, confused, muddled frame of mind and into a new frame of mind and it really made a difference to the relationship that I have and the person that I am interacting with. It turned things around.
It was quite amazing for me and I find that that kind of thing is a benefit that you can find in journaling every time.
5 Benefits You Can Expect from Journaling
Maybe some days there won’t be any major benefit that you are getting, but it’s building that habit, kind of like that domino effect I put in another video. That habit over time eventually has a big impact in your life.
So here are the five benefits that you can count on from journaling.
- Find Clarity – Just like I explained before, clearing up your mind, getting things clear and having the ability to be more free and open in your thinking.
- Know Yourself Better – It seems like you might already know yourself quite well but you will be surprised, if you take time to put your thoughts on paper, don’t filter them, just write them down. Maybe look back at them once in awhile. Even watch how your thoughts change and as you write. You are going to get to know yourself in a different way.
- Reduce Stress – This is an amazing health benefit. There is something about being able to sit down even if it is just two minutes in the morning. Sometimes it might be longer, 15 minutes because you have something really big that you want to work through. Just the exercise of thinking and letting your thoughts flow, reduces the stress that is held up the tension in your mind when you have no outlet.
- Resolve Disagreements – You might not see exactly how this will solve disagreements because it is only you working things through from your perspective but you will see that as you do them, as you journal about things, you are going to find solutions and ways that you can reach out and change things for the better in your relationships with others.
- Solve Problems – The thing about problem solving is that very often we try to approach problems linearly. When we talk with someone we talk about how to need to do this, then this, then this. But when you journal you can have everything flow as it comes in and the it may make sense after it is written.

Now I would like to give you a simple action plan to help get you going.
- Find something that is going to work for you. Do not get too complicated. Do not overthink it. Don’t doing a bunch of shopping. Get something that you know is going to excite you.
- Maybe you just need a simple notebook.
- Maybe you have one lying around the house.
- Maybe you want to buy a journal, some people really like these fancy leather skin journals.
- Buy a nice pen, one that will get you excited.
- One more tool that you might find helpful is to be able to journal on your computer. I love using Evernote because it just stores all my thoughts in there. I can find them. I can search them. It’s very well indexed. (I keep it stored locally on my computer. I don’t store it on the cloud, so that way I keep it private.)
- Commit to taking action. The thing is that it is not so much as what you use, it is about getting involved in the action. It is a simple action of sitting dow with a pen and paper or going to your computer everyday.
- Take two minutes everyday.
- Do not worry about the style.
- Do not worry about what you are going to say.
- Do not worry about what it is going to be.
- I think the only thing that you really need to focus on is being able to do it once a day first thing in the morning.
- Start. Start today. Don’t wait. Don’t wait to have the perfect setup. Don’t wait to have things figured out. Don’t wait for the inspiration. Just start and you will see that as time goes by the habit will develop and you will have something that will be of value to you.
Here is a quote for today, it is from the success guru Robin S. Sharma on journaling:
Writing in a journal reminds you of your goals and of your learning in life. It offers a place where you can hold a deliberate, thoughtful conversation with yourself.”
Robin Sharma (Read The Greatness Guide)
The affirmation is:
As I put my thoughts on paper, my mind becomes clearer and solutions come to me more easily.”
I hope that this short video was of help and I really hope that you look back at all the other videos in the series. You can benefit from them in a great way.
Personally, I would be very interested in knowing:
