I want my kids to have a healthy relationship with money but I know they’ll be getting their views and habits around money from me initially, the same way I got them from my parents. Ouch!

I love my parents and they chose the lifestyle they felt was best for them and their family. They’re happy with their choices, which is most important. Recently, I’ve come to learn some amazing things money and I’m happy for the changes I’m making in my life.

In this video I want to give you a simple, quick tip about money.

Money is a huge topic and there’s a lot of people talking about it and there are so many ways to come at it.

The Holistic Approach

But this tip is something that I think really helps to give money, a sense of balance and priority in your life that takes care of all of you; not just by putting food on the table and putting a roof over your head, things that we really really need, but so much more.

There is so much more, there’s enjoyment and recreation. There’s those good things that we want in life, the extras and then there’s planning for the future.

I had the opportunity to participate in an online seminar a while back with T. Harv Eker and someone put together a great infographic that shows his six jar system . I’m going to put that on the show notes below.

I would like to encourage you to take a look at it and find a way to either make it your own, use it yourself or adapt it in a way, maybe you need to adapt the percentages, but there’s always a way to make something work if you have the will.

One Thing You Probably Overlook Working With Money

And I think one of the biggest things is taking care of yourself; it’s something we often forget in finances, we are so busy paying other people, paying our creditors, paying our bills that were not giving money to ourselves. And that’s where a lot of the big drain is. (Read Secrets of the Millionaire Mind)

The 6 Jar System

So here they are.

  • One of them is financial freedom, you have a financial freedom account that you never dip into and you only use it for going forward for investing in businesses, for buying some sort of real estate or something that’s going to bring in money.
  • The next one is long-term savings. Now in long-term savings very often we want something extra. Okay, you need a pair of shoes, that’s basic necessities, but if you want a certain style or you want certain phone that’s a bit more expensive than a basic one, save up, give yourself that treat and do it responsibly and wisely.
  • Of course another area you will be putting money towards is your necessities; it’s going to be your rent, it’s going to be your gas, it’s going to be your clothes, your food and those things and most likely that’s over 50% of your budget.

Three Areas That Take Care of You and Your Spirit

All right, here are the last three jars, the last three areas that he suggests that you budget into and they are:

  • Education; take time to learn something new. Go to seminars, buy info products, buy things that you need, buy courses, online courses, things that can take in new directions, that can give you new experiences and can help you find solutions to problems maybe that you have been facing, or just learn something that’s fun.
  • Another area which is very important is giving. Have a budget specifically for giving, it can be as little as 5% or maybe 10%, whatever it is that you can afford to give, but be sure to give.
  • And now this is one that a lot of people tend to forget and they tend to kind of put it off and that is, set aside money for play, okay, you need to have fun, you need to relax.

All right, so check out the infographic below. If you have any more questions or if you’re interested in some of the details you can also check out T. Harv Eker’s work.

And now here is your quote for today,

[shareable cite=”Sure Orman”]A big part of financial freedom is having your heart and mind free from worry about the what if’s of life. #quote[/shareable]

And here’s your affirmation for today, be sure to post it by your bed or in the bathroom, somewhere you are going to see it at least twice a day, when you get up and when you go to sleep and say it at least three times each time you see it.
