Check out this awesome air orchestra, and try to remember the last time you let your hair down and did something silly.

I remember, when my kids were small, one of our favorite things to do together was turn down the lights in the evening, put on some dancing music, and have a “disco night.” I think I need another dose of that.

You’ve heard the benefits of laughter proclaimed far and wide.

Laughter is the best medicine.

You don’t have to be a doctor to know that laughter great for relieving stress.

Now, take a moment to think about one of the most likely ways to get yourself or others laughing. You guessed it, play.

Playing not only brings with it all the benefits of laughter, but according to some scientists it makes us smart too.

‘We found children who were better at pretending could reason better about counterfactuals—they were better at thinking about different possibilities.’
Pretend play is not only important for kids; it’s a crucial part of what makes all humans so smart.”

Look for ways to play today and experience the benefits of playing and laughing firsthand. Here are some ideas to get you started.

  1. Smile. You’ve gotta start somewhere and smiling is the first step to laughing. When you smile you cannot help but feel happy emotions. As you change your emotions and thoughts, ideas of fun and play come to you more easily.
  2. Be around fun and playful people. You know who they are in your life or work. Their playfulness is contagious and will rub off on you.
  3. Open your conversations to humor. Just ask people, “What is the funniest thing that happened to you today? How about this week, or maybe in your life?”
  4. Listen to fun upbeat music. Music is a great mood enhancer. Find some music that moves you and gets you in a playful mood. Get up and dance if you’re able.
  5. Get some card games or board games to take with your to your next social gathering. Pull them out and have fun with your friends.
  6. When you hear playing, laughter or general fun, move towards it. Sometimes it can be a private matter but I’d say generally most people are willing to share something fun with others. Often they are happy to enjoy the humor one more time as they share it with you see you enjoy it. When you hear laughter, walk over and ask, “What’s funny?”
