Hi. I am Abe Stone at CoachingReallyWorks.com
Today I have a simple quick tip that. I want to share with you about time management.
Actually, I am not sure if it is about time management. You have probably heard people say that you cannot really manage time you can only prioritize time. I think there is some truth to that.
Sometimes, when we get working on something and it is a priority and we have several different things that we need to do, we just sort of give all of our energy to one thing and find that it eats up all the time that we have and we couldn’t get to our other priorities.
Procrastination in Disguise
I think the real problem there is that it’s almost like procrastination or putting off other things disguised as a sense of work. You feel like you’re doing something, you’re busy, you’re active but then in the end you don’t get to all the things that you need to do and your time was a little bit ill spent.
I have a little tool for you that I think you may benefit from, you may have heard of it from somewhere else, but this is something that has been making my work and my focus a lot better. I have been able to accomplish a lot more with the time that do have. I’ve also been able to identify the weak areas and pull back from them.
The Simple but Powerful Tool! Drum Roll Please.
So… It goes like this..
- First, it is a given, you have to PLAN. Take time to plan.
Make sure that you plan out your day. I would say preferably the night before.
- Once you have that plan set a timer.
I use a simple egg timer. I wind it up and I take it and I set it down and it ticks away. It does two things.
- It reminds me that time is passing, I hear the ticking.
- When I get to the end of that time I have to deliver.
The best thing is to learn to cut off when it says that the time is up and move forward to the things that you have to do.
Sometimes it is a matter of breaking your time down into pieces. You will dedicate say 50 minutes take a break and then another 50 minutes. Stop at 50 minutes and recharged get a drink, make a cup of tea, come back.
So using a timer is an extremely helpful tool that will help you create focus and keep you from getting pulled away because as you hear that ticking and you realize that you are under a time limit, you are not going to be tempted to get distracted or get involved in other things or go slow and give it too much time, more time than it actually needs.
The App for Focus or Relaxation
Another high-tech tool that you can use, and I’ve been using, is an app. I think it is called Relax Melodies (not an affiliate link). It has some really great sounds and audios like white noise. You put it on and it helps you focus.
It also has something called binaural beats which allow you to change the alpha waves of your brain so that it’s working at optimal levels. Anyway, that is a discussion that is for another video.
But today, these are two tools that I would like to leave on your hand and I hope that they can really help you in some way to create that focus you need in your life.
Here is a quote from Tony Robbins on the bigger picture of focus in our lives.
One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate out power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.”
Tony Robbins (Read Awaken the Giant Within)
Here is the affirmation for today.
My mind is focused and I have clarity and energy in all that I do.
I hope that this short video was of help for you and I hope that you can benefit in some way.
