Have you ever been somewhere having a good time, playing a game, taking a break, or simply talking with someone, when a sinking feeling suddenly hit you? Your mind probably got flooded with things you need to do or possibly better ways to spend your time.
Granted, you do need to be prudent with your time. Is that really what that was about? Why can’t you enjoy that time and be happy now? How about most of the time, whether you are working or relaxing?

Hello and welcome to Coaching Really Works.
My name is Abe Stone, the life design coach here.
Today I want to talk about a topic that everyone is looking for, something that everyone is trying to find, sometimes we are postponing it, sometimes we are waiting to be able to reach a certain point to be able to find this elusive thing. What is this thing I am talking about? It’s simple…
H A P P I N E S S
Second guessing myself
The other day I was playing badminton. I have a group of friends that I was play with and we have a good time and we have laughs and it’s just a few of us who get together, I started a group, sometimes more of us show up and sometimes fewer.
Well, the point is, that day I was playing and I was having a good time. it was on Monday evening. We play for two hours.
I was there having fun but then I started getting thoughts about the work that I needed to do, things like this video, things that I have to do, products that I am developing, my book that is going to be coming out soon, just a variety of different things and I was thinking:
Could I be using this time better?
Is there something that I should be doing?”
That Sinking Feeling
Then I started just to get this sinking feeling. I don’t know if that ever happens to you but sure enough it happened to me. I was at the court, I was holding my racket, I was reaching down to get my shuttlecock and I realized…
“…wait a minute, I’ve got to be happy now. I cannot be thinking about this, this is my time to enjoy life and to enjoy this thing.”
Yeah sure, I want to be done with my goals, I want to be able to reach them, I want to be able to have things flowing at a certain level but when it is time to stop, it is time to stop and I can enjoy this time and I did.
The Shift
What I did, the thing that changed it at that very moment, was I just simply said: “Thank You!”
I was really thankful for that moment. I went on playing and we had a great time. We had a really, really good evening.
I would like to suggest this to you, when you get that sinking feeling or when you are overwhelmed by work or pressures or you are just thinking that maybe once I finish this one thing will take time to relax and I will be happy or when I can accomplish or have this in my life.
The Power of Habit
The thing about that idea, happiness being something that is coming in the future is this:
We have a habit in how we think.
We have habits in how we life our day.
We have habits in how we groom ourselves, what you do in your morning routines.
Thinking is one of those things that humans we develop habits for.
The Goal Seeking Machine
If you are in a habit of always thinking of your happiness in the future or of your worrying or second guessing yourself or when you are there to have fun or do something fun you are concerned with the next goal or the next thing that you need to reach… guess what is going to happen when you reach your goal?
There is going to be a new goal.
There is going to be something else that you are going to look forward to and you are going to wait and postpone your happiness.
What you need to do is, you need to start practicing your happiness now.
There is something I would like to show you that I came up with. Actually, I got this from someone else, I don’t remember who it was. I was watching something.
Anyways, I have this poster, I had it all framed.I put it up in my wall and it is very simple, it says:
Practice Happiness Now”
That is the thought that I would like leave you with. Start practicing happiness now. Don’t put it off. Don’t postpone it.
Just in little moments throughout the day. Take some time just to think.
Be thankful.
I would suggest that the best way to do this, besides putting a smile on your face, is to really be grateful in your heart. Just say “thank you” for that moment. Even thank other people that you are with or if you are alone, just shoot up a thought to the Universe or to God, or to whatever it is that you believe.
I would like to leave you this those two thoughts.
- Practice Happiness Now
- Be Grateful all the time for as many things as you can think of.
With these two things I really believe you can turn your days around and start having a lot more fun in the things that you do, even if they are not your favorite thing, but you can find the joy and the simple pleasures in between. Surround yourself with happy moments.
Closing
I would like to leave you with the quote of the day.
It is from Abraham Lincoln, he said:
Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
Abraham Lincoln
And the affirmation for this week is:
[reminder]I would love to hear your comments on this post. If you have any ideas on practicing happiness now or making happiness a part of your life and your everyday life, maybe even at work or at play or your downtime or whatever it is, leave a comment and share your ideas.[/reminder]Right now, as I think this thought, circumstances are shifting to flood every aspect of my life with happiness.”
