Setting up a personal budget and then completely ignoring the rest of the month has been a bad habit of mine. It has resulted in some avoidable financial tightness.

I came across an effective tool just in time to turn this bad habit around this month. It’s been a few weeks now and I’m doing pretty good with a new habit of tracking my expenses daily.

Hi there! I am Abe Stone and this is Coaching Really Works.com. Welcome, and I hope that you enjoy this special short video that I made just for you.

I want to give you something, I want to give you a coaching tool that you can use to form the habits that you need to give you the structure to move ahead and reach for your goal. Us it to help you find solutions to those things in your life that you need to grow in and that you need to move ahead in.

This is something that I found when I was on the International Coaching Federation blog. It is an amazing post from the author of the website The Coaching Tools Company.com. I will give you a link below to help you see some of the amazing tools that they provide.

The thing is, a couple of weeks ago, I realized that I had some bad habits, that I was not doing very well in. I was floundering. I was procrastinating. I was putting off certain things in my behavior.

I was putting off certain things that I needed to do, to start my day and it just wasn’t going well and I felt like a failure. My energy is just going wrong.

I came across this idea. It was so wonderful, I put it into practice right away. I want to share the insight with you, so that you can use it. There are three steps.

1. Find context

Now, finding context, I think the best way to describe that is, “Your ‘why’ should make you cry.

[shareable cite=”Abe Stone”]Your why should make you cry and you’ll have great context for building new habits.[/shareable]

The reason to do something has to be motivating for you. You can’t just be, “Oh, I want this new habit.” No, why do you want it?

How do we get context?

One of the key questions that you need to ask yourself is:

[shareable]What are my top three priorities right now?[/shareable]

Just answer that and write it down.

Next, ask yourself:

[shareable]What are my three main stressors?[/shareable]

I did this and the answers to both of these questions were pretty obvious. They were in the forefront of my mind. It was easy to get those down.

2. Brainstorm

Now, the next step that you would want to do is to want to brainstorm.

Now, this is a very important part of the process. You know the stressors, you know what your priorities are, and what you want to grow in?

Find five or more habits that you can start to implement today that will help to meet those needs, that will help alleviate the stress, that will help you move you forward in those areas that will be priority in your life.

Just go ahead and write them down. You can even write ten ideas now, just let it all go and put together a very clear list.

They have to be specific so you can measure, “Did I do this?

Now, you’re ready for the third step.

3. Commit

The third part is to commit.

Now, commitment is very important because you need to commit to something that you are going to do. It must be something that will move you but it needs to be achievable and not something that is going to discourage you.

I had written the person who has offered this post and have shared this idea. It is very interesting what she said when I asked, “Why did you set the first goal is to start tomorrow, next is to start the week, and the third goal is to start in a month? Isn’t it something that we want to start right away?”

Then she explained:

Yeah you could do that, if you are ready for it, just go for it but if not just get one with in. Start tomorrow on one big win, then start next week on the next win and then start next month on the next win.”

Very often there are a lot of things that are going on in our lives that are keeping us busy, so this idea helps us to use this tool to introduce this habit slowly in a way that they will stick.

So pick the one that you are going to start tomorrow, write it down, exactly what it is that you are going to do. Make sure that it is measurable and that you can start tomorrow.

Now, write down the one that you are going to start next week and then write down the one that you are going to start next month.

Be sure to pick three. Be very specific and commit to them.

There you have it, an amazing coaching tool that you can use to move forward and help you establish new habits that are really gonna give you the gains that you want in life today.

For now I am going to leave you with a quote:

Sow and act and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

 Charles Reade

I love that. It is all about that, sowing and watching you life grow into that amazing destiny.

Okay, now for the affirmation. The affirmation for today is

[shareable]I easily let go of old routines so that I can embrace more empowering ones. #Affirmation[/shareable]

Hope that this short video is a little help to you and I hope that this little coaching to, this little insight, can be a great step to help you get ahead in your life in developing the habits that you need.
