Have you ever been in those situations where you have been struggling with something, something in your business, in your relationships? Something is not right or maybe you are worried about something. You have that feeling in your gut. Sometimes it affects your sleep. Sometimes it affects your focus.

The other day I was in such a situation. I was having a hard time sleeping at night.

I had these thoughts about work. Feelings that I am not really going to make it, I’m not really gonna break through in the ideas, the business plans that I have, the directions that I want to go in with what I am doing here at Coaching Really Works, as well as my book.

Those thoughts were keeping me awake. I just lay in bed frustrated mulling over the thoughts.

Suddenly I remembered something that I learned about a couple of weeks ago that I got from a webinar with Harv Eker. It goes like this. When your mind thinks of stories, and tries to tell you a story, and form a future where things are not going to work out, or you don’t have what it takes, or maybe this person is not going to go along with this idea, or whatever it is that you’re doing you are going to fail, those are just stories. They are stories that your mind is making up.

Your mind is an amazing story making machine.

You mind is meaning making machine. It’s always busy at work. It’s working within a set paradigm, a paradigm that comes from your past influences that you have in your life as well as what you feed it today.

Well, it doesn’t always serve our best purpose or what we have in mind. It is basically just designed to keep itself safe and keep itself from danger.

Now in order to change that, we have to learn to be able to let it go.

Harv brought up this idea in a webinar and he said that the next time your mind tries to say those things and tries to hold you back and tries to keep you back and keep you from danger or just keeps you from venturing out in new areas you want to go in, just listen to what it has to say and simply say “Thank you for sharing.”

Observe your thoughts.

It’s a funny thing, because when we look at our thoughts that way, it changes the amount of influence that our thoughts have on us, our life, our direction and where we are going.

I tried it and I simply said, “Thank you for sharing.” It’s amazing how quickly those thoughts just went away. They let go of the grip that they had on my mind, and I was able to sleep sound for the rest of the night.

The Power of Now

There is a great book by the author Eckhart Tolle, “The Power of Now.” I don’t know if you had the chance to read it but it’s a really good read. He talks about how when we pull back from our mind, from the busy activity of our thoughts and we become the witness, and we are able to observe our thoughts, it changes our level of consciousness. We realize that we have so many more resources than just the limited brain power that we identify ourselves with and who we think we are.

Here is a quote from the book that can help you,

Whenever you are able to observe your mind, you are no longer trapped in it.”

Eckhart Tolle

These kinds of thoughts can come anytime. It can be in the middle of the day, in the middle of the night, and you can feel the tension, the pressure, and the emotions mounting up inside when you are faced with them.

Let your thoughts and emotions go

So the next time that you are faced with these kinds of thoughts that are bringing you down and building up stress and tension, worry and fear in your life, just stop your mind. Stop all the busy thinking and just say “Thank you for sharing” and let it go.

It’s amazing when you let that go, and accept that thought for what it is, don’t add any weight to it, don’t get into it, just let it go, how it fades away. You are able to think clearly again, refocus and be able to look at things that are important in the direction you are going, whether it’s going over your plans again, or talking to someone you need to talk to. You are able to do it from a position of clarity rather than a position of fog and confusion.

Affirmation

I would like to leave you with one affirmation before I go that you can use and change the way you look at your mind.

I wake up today with strength in my heart and clarity in my mind.”
