Why You Need a Crisis to Change – Or Do You?

I was shocked when I read this line in a post yesterday, “Your brain isn’t just resistant to change; it’s lazy.” I thought about it a bit more and I realised, in a way, it is true.

You have an autopilot control in your brain that is well able to take you as safely as possible through life. It does this in response to the world around you and more important in alignment with the mental image you have developed of yourself and your life over your lifetime.

Last week someone I’m close to pulled back from our relationship. At first I tried to communicate but she responded with the comment, “I’m just having an off day, don’t take it personal.”

“Aha!” Moments of 16 Achievers – Are You Next? [Infographic]

Oprah has made “Aha!” moments famous, but what really are “Aha!” moments? Perhaps you’ve had one of your own, or maybe several.

Notice how some of the aha moments in this infographic where experienced when people where faced with a difficulty which they didn’t allow to stop them. In fact, it was the opposite, they used it to move in a new direction. They not only overcame the difficulty for themselves but they also helped others in the process.

The Control that Makes Your Goals Happen

What is one thing you have absolute control over? Well, you may not be exercising control over it at the moment, or at times, but potentially you are capable of having complete control over this.

This control, which you accept or release, makes the difference between success and failure. That difference can sometimes be measured in a few minutes, a few days, a couple of millimeters, or a few feet. (more…)

5 Things Achievers Know About Following Dreams

You might say I was a late bloomer in the dreams department. Having grown up in a high commitment religious environment, where having ideas or dreams was frowned upon in favor or putting the “greater need” above our own desires.

Well, that’s a story for another time, but if you’re like me, I can imagine you are often motivated by the great people you’ve seen accomplish their dreams and goals, and are living amazing lives. We’re told we can do it too. Somehow we often do not pay attention to challenges they went through to get there. (more…)

Relax, Your Goals May Have to Wait Just a Tad

It can be so frustrating when all you want to do is make progress toward your goal but you have to wait. Yep, sometimes there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s natural to have those moments of rest or a change in pace.

Just this week I got derailed by a bout of illness. It seems to have be something going around, because some of my friends caught it too. The crazy thing is, in those moments of struggling through the fever and discomfort I still tried to look at my work and see if there was anything I could do. There were a few thing I managed but by and large I was not much good on the progress front.

In fact, I got quite depressed and overwhelmed at one point looking at my plans, goals, and to-dos. (more…)

“That’s what happens, when…” “She did this, because…” “It must not have been meant to be, or else…” “Today is going to be a good day, because…” What meaning are you reading into what happens or doesn’t happen in your day, your week, or the last couple of months?

Potentially disappointing situations come up in everyone’s life, but do we really have to be disappointed? What word is the opposite of “disappointment”. It seems many people often say, “It was great. I wasn’t disappointed.” It almost sounds like disappointment was the default. I’d say being pleased by an outcome or experience should be our expectation. (more…)

5 Things Winners Do When Bad Things Happen

“Oh, my god,” I said, clasping my head in my hands; a look of horror flooding my face. While checking in at the airport I was informed that I had messed up on some paperwork and one of my kids would miss the flight.

I had planned well, prepared way in advance, and made sure everything was in order for the international trip three of my kids would be taking to be with their mother. How could I have been so careless? Now that was a big mistake, and I felt like a huge failure. (more…)

Forget Getting Your Ducks in a Row

Will you ever be ready? …I mean really ready. So often we stop short of doing some things or making certain changes in our lives just because we don’t feel ready. Sound familiar? It’s the bane of the perfectionist’s life.

I love doing things right but what if I never do them? Seth Godin talked about the popular metaphor, get your ducks in a row, in a podcast I heard recently. He recommends not to wait to get all your ducks in a row but to rather focus on what you are going to do with a duck and then get started even if you only start with one duck. LOL! (This did make me laugh.) (more…)
